Mandera East Constituency has launched a Sh50 million bursary fund under the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) to support financially disadvantaged students.
The initiative, spearheaded by Mandera East Member of Parliament, the honourable Hussein Weytan, seeks to enhance access to education by assisting students in secondary schools, colleges, and universities.
Commitment to Education
Speaking during the launch event at Mandera Technical Training Institute, the area MP reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring that no student misses school due to a lack of fees.
He emphasized that education remains one of his top priorities and pledged to continue advocating for increased funding to support learners in the constituency.
“Education remains one of my top priorities, and I am determined to ensure that all students receive the necessary support to achieve their academic dreams,” the MP stated.
To ensure fairness and transparency in the bursary allocation, the legislator announced that he would work closely with community elders to identify and support the most deserving students.
This collaborative approach is expected to eliminate biases and ensure that only genuinely needy students benefit from the programme.
Government Support and Community Impact
Mandera County Commissioner, Henry Ochako, who graced the launch, lauded the MP for prioritizing education in the region.
He urged other leaders to initiate similar projects to improve education access across the county.
“I encourage all leaders to take similar initiatives in promoting access to education for everyone,” said Commissioner Ochako.
Parents and beneficiaries welcomed the initiative, expressing relief that the bursary would ease the financial burden of school fees.
Many families in Mandera East struggle to educate their children due to economic hardships, and this fund is expected to provide much-needed relief.
The bursary programme is set to benefit over 2,500 students currently enrolled in various secondary schools, colleges, and universities, reinforcing the government’s commitment to empowering the youth through education.
A Step Towards Educational Transformation
Mandera East has long faced educational challenges due to financial constraints, insecurity, and infrastructural limitations.
The launch of the bursary fund marks a significant step in addressing these issues, ensuring that more students complete their education and contribute positively to society.
With the MP’s assurance of continued support and transparency in the allocation process, stakeholders remain optimistic that the initiative will have a lasting impact on the constituency’s education sector.
