Former Education CS George Magoha has passed at the age of 71. It happens just a few days after he secured a job at Maseno University as a lecturer in the school of medicine.
He is said to have collapsed four times before passing on with the fourth time being 100metres from Nairobi hospital causaltly.
Prof. Magoha who is an alumnus of DR Livingstone Primary School and Starehe Boys Centre and School graduated from Strathmore College and the University of Lagos, Nigeria with a bachelor’s Degree in Medicine.
His journey to greatness began as an intern and rose to senior resident and clinical lecturer in surgery at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. He later on joined the University of Nairobi in 1988, where he became a full professor in 2000.
He leaves many achievements including being the first vice-chancellor to be appointed competitively, and whose leadership oversaw the completion of the construction of 22-storey university towers to 80 per cent.
In his tenure as a Cabinet Secretary of Education in kenya, there was a great improvement in quality of education. Discipline and strict enforcement of rule and regulation saw a great transmission with reduction in exam malpractices.
In early December, the Magoha family was mourning after his brother Alex Nyabera Magoha died in Allen, Texas, USA. In August 2021, Prof. Magoha’s other brother Charles Agunga died in Sweden. The no-nonsense Prof. is survived by widow Dr Barbra Magoha and son Michael Magoha.
Truly the country of Kenya has lost a great person. May he rest in peace.
