Governor Guyo’s Water Revolution: Biliqo Marara Project Paves the Way for Climate Resilience in Isiolo

1 minute, 37 seconds Read

In a bold move to fortify Isiolo County against the mounting threats of drought and climate unpredictability, the administration of Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan (Guyo) is making significant strides in expanding water access and building long-term resilience—this time in the heart of the Biliqo Marara region.

At the forefront of this initiative, Chief Officer for Environment Diba Abduba Ganya and Director of Environment Osman Bagaja recently conducted an intensive field assessment of the ongoing Biliqo Marara water project.

Their visit underscored the county government’s unwavering commitment to transforming water from a scarce commodity into a reliable, community-owned asset.

The project itself is a model of sustainable engineering: a 2.1-kilometer pipeline network, a newly drilled borehole, full equipping of the borehole infrastructure, and a solarization system designed to guarantee energy-efficient, round-the-clock water supply.

These interventions are not isolated efforts but integral components of Governor Guyo’s broader agenda to expand essential services and drastically reduce the county’s vulnerability to climate shocks.

During the assessment, the county officials engaged directly with local residents—not merely as beneficiaries, but as partners.

The dialogue centered on fostering community ownership and ensuring the project’s long-term sustainability.

Residents were urged to take an active role in safeguarding the infrastructure, while officials explained how the improved water access would revitalize livelihoods, cushion households against erratic weather patterns, and ease the perennial burden of water scarcity once the project is completed.

This Biliqo Marara exercise is part of a larger, countywide project assessment sweeping across all wards under the drought resilience programme.

The ongoing review aims to track implementation progress, strengthen technical and community-based delivery mechanisms, and guarantee that every shilling invested translates into tangible, lasting water solutions for the people of Isiolo.

With Governor Guyo at the helm, Isiolo is not just reacting to climate change—it is outsmarting it, one borehole, one pipeline, and one empowered community at a time.
