Relief at Last: Governor Guyo Delivers Clean Water to Kipsing After Six Decades of Drought

In a monumental milestone for Kipsing residents of Oldo Nyiro Ward, the long and painful wait for clean, piped water has finally come to an end.

For over 60 years since Kenya’s independence, the arid village in Isiolo County had been reliant on seasonal streams, water pans, and shallow hand-dug wells—most of which were both unsafe and unreliable.

This historic turnaround comes courtesy of Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan, popularly known as Guyo, whose administration has prioritized access to clean water as a cornerstone of his development agenda.

True to his campaign promise to eradicate water scarcity in the county, Governor Guyo has now overseen the successful drilling of more than 30 boreholes across Isiolo since assuming office in August 2022.

The newly drilled borehole in Kipsing was met with spontaneous celebration as residents watched with elation and disbelief the first gush of crystal-clear water shoot into the air.

Cheers erupted as elderly community members, some of whom had never before consumed treated or piped water, described the moment as a dream come true.

“This is the first time in my life to see clean water flowing like this in our village,” said one resident. “We have suffered for decades, and today, Governor Guyo has lifted that burden off our shoulders.”

Many residents took the opportunity to heap praise on the county boss, pledging their unwavering support for his reelection bid in 2027.

They hailed him not just as a leader but as a transformative figure who has succeeded where generations of leadership failed.

County officials from the Department of Water and Irrigation, who spoke to ICBNews at the site, affirmed that the Kipsing borehole is part of a wider and strategic countywide water master plan.

They disclosed that additional boreholes are concurrently being drilled in other remote and historically marginalized wards including Cherab, Chari, Sericho, Garbatulla, and Ngaremara.

“Governor Guyo’s administration is not just about short-term relief but long-term sustainability,” said one senior water official. “We are committed to ensuring that no part of Isiolo is left behind when it comes to access to clean, safe, and sufficient water.”

In addition to drilling, the county government is expediting the procurement and installation of critical infrastructure including water piping, generators, and storage tanks to ensure seamless distribution of water to homesteads.

The officials assured residents that the tendering and procurement processes are at an advanced stage and that implementation will follow without delay.

The county government also recognized the role played by Oldo Nyiro MCA David Lemantile, commending his relentless lobbying for the Kipsing borehole.

His advocacy, in close collaboration with Governor Guyo’s office, was instrumental in bringing the project to fruition.

The successful completion of the Kipsing borehole stands not only as a testament to Governor Guyo’s development-oriented leadership but also as a symbol of hope for arid and semi-arid regions long neglected in Kenya’s water infrastructure planning.

For the people of Kipsing, it is more than just water—it is dignity restored, a promise kept, and a future transformed.
