Mwea, Kenya| Pupils at Wang’uru Primary School in Mwea can now look forward to a more conducive learning environment following a comprehensive infrastructural upgrade spearheaded by Mwea Member of Parliament Mary Maingi.

The renovation, funded through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), is part of ongoing efforts to improve the quality of education in the constituency.

The school, which has long grappled with dilapidated facilities and previously operated out of repurposed offices of the National Irrigation Authority, has undergone a complete transformation.

The facelift includes the construction of a modern one-storey Tuition Complex and a new Administration Block, providing a much-needed boost to the institution’s learning and management capacity.

The newly constructed building features spacious classrooms capable of accommodating up to 100 pupils, designed to meet modern learning standards and ease congestion in the existing facilities.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki officiated the opening ceremony, joined by senior officials from the Ministry of Education and other dignitaries.

In his remarks, Kindiki lauded the initiative, noting that education was a cornerstone of the government’s development agenda. He also pledged additional government support to address the needs of the growing student population in the area.

“This project is a testament to what focused leadership and strategic investment in education can achieve. We will continue to prioritize education by channeling more resources into such deserving initiatives,” said the Deputy President.

MP Mary Maingi emphasized that the project was part of her broader commitment to transforming educational institutions across Mwea constituency.

She reiterated her focus on delivering quality, accessible, and innovative education as a foundation for long-term national development.

“I am dedicated to modernizing our schools through the construction of classrooms, laboratories, ICT hubs, and provision of learning materials,” Maingi said.

“Education is the most powerful tool for empowerment, and we are determined to create the best possible learning conditions for our children.”

As part of her continued investment in education, Maingi also launched a Sh82 million bursary fund during the event.

The funds are intended to support learners across various levels, including primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, to ensure no child is left behind due to financial constraints.

The facelift at Wang’uru Primary School marks a significant milestone in the constituency’s education sector, with local leaders and residents praising the efforts to uplift learning standards and enhance opportunities for young learners in the region.
