•The CECM for Trade and Cooperatives Convened a Stakeholders Meeting in Mandera West Regarding the Ongoing Exercise
Mandera, Kenya| On the second day of the ongoing County Government Own Source Revenue (OSR) Mobilisation and Policy Dissemination initiative, Mandera County Government intensified its campaign to enhance local revenue collection through a high-level stakeholders meeting held at the Mandera West Sub-County headquarters.
The forum, convened by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Trade and Cooperatives, Mr. Adan Dakane, brought together a wide array of stakeholders including sub-county administrators, business sector representatives, community opinion leaders, and other relevant local actors.
The meeting served as both an engagement platform and a critical policy sensitisation session aimed at bolstering collaboration between the government and the local populace in revenue matters.
In his address, Mr. Dakane reaffirmed the county government’s unwavering commitment to improved service delivery and sustainable development.

He stressed that achieving these goals hinges significantly on the county’s capacity to generate and manage revenue from its own local sources.
“Our ability to provide better services – be it in healthcare, infrastructure, water, education or trade – depends on how well we can mobilize our own revenue,” he said.
He further illustrated the direct link between robust local revenue mobilisation and the quality of public services, emphasising that increased revenues empower the county government to implement development projects and respond effectively to citizens’ needs.
Mr. Dakane urged all stakeholders to embrace the OSR policy as a collective tool for transformation and ownership of local development.
Participants at the meeting echoed his sentiments, with representatives from the business community pledging to fully support the county government’s revenue mobilisation efforts.
They also expressed readiness to comply with taxation and levies, noting that a transparent and inclusive revenue system is vital for both business growth and public welfare.
Opinion leaders and sub-county officials also lauded the ongoing engagement, citing it as a positive step toward building trust and accountability between the county government and residents.
They called for sustained dialogue and consistent feedback mechanisms to ensure the policy’s success.
The meeting in Mandera West is part of a broader countywide campaign to not only implement the OSR policy but to cultivate a culture of civic responsibility and mutual cooperation in local governance.
As the dissemination exercise continues, the Mandera County Government is optimistic that enhanced public awareness and stakeholder collaboration will significantly improve own-source revenue performance – a critical pillar for long-term economic resilience and service delivery.
