•CEC Adan Dakane Supervises Allocation and Commissioning, Urges Compliance and Cooperation from Traders
Ashabito, Mandera County| The Mandera County Government has taken a significant step toward revitalizing local trade and boosting its own-source revenue collection by commissioning 24 newly constructed market stalls in Ashabito town.
The allocation and official commissioning of the stalls was presided over today by Mr. Adan Dakane, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Trade, Investment, and Cooperatives.
The event followed a week-long public engagement exercise aimed at identifying suitable tenants for the market stalls.
The process emphasized transparency and inclusivity, ensuring that traders selected were genuine entrepreneurs committed to complying with county regulations.
During his address at the event, Mr. Dakane outlined the County Administration’s broader economic policies and highlighted recent achievements in trade and cooperative development.

He emphasized the county’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for business and urged the new market tenants to uphold their end of the agreement by paying rent and remitting applicable government revenue in a timely manner.
“This market is not just a structure; it is a symbol of economic empowerment and local development.” Mr. Dakane stated.
“The tenants who have taken up these stalls have made a commitment to work with the government, not only to grow their businesses but also to support public services through revenue contribution,” he explained further.
The new market tenants, for their part, pledged to begin paying the required rents immediately and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to operate in a secure and organized trading environment.
Many lauded the County Government’s initiative as a long-awaited opportunity to conduct business with dignity and predictability.
The Ashabito market commissioning marks the beginning of a county-wide initiative aimed at operationalizing dormant markets and strengthening the county’s revenue collection framework.
According to the Department of Trade, similar efforts will be rolled out across other sub-counties in the coming weeks.
In a related development earlier in the day, Mr. Dakane presented a brand new motorbike to the Rhamu Trade Office.
The vehicle is expected to enhance the department’s mobility, facilitate routine market monitoring, and improve efficiency in revenue collection and trade support services.
The ongoing efforts signal the Mandera County Government’s strategic focus on economic revitalization at the grassroots level, prioritizing accessibility, inclusivity, and financial sustainability across its trade and investment agenda.
