•County Leadership Engages in Awareness and Capacity-Building Sessions
The Isiolo County Government is making significant strides in advancing child protection by ensuring that county leaders and policymakers are well-versed in the provisions of the Isiolo County Child Protection Policy 2025.
A sensitization session for County Executive Committee (CEC) members is currently underway, with another session scheduled tomorrow for Members of the County Assembly (MCAs).
These engagements are designed to equip leaders with the knowledge and understanding necessary to facilitate the effective implementation of the policy, ensuring that child welfare remains a top priority in county governance.
Isiolo County Child Protection Policy 2025: A Comprehensive Safeguard for Children
The Isiolo County Child Protection Policy 2025 provides a structured framework for safeguarding children from abuse, neglect, harmful cultural practices, violence, and exploitation. The policy outlines clear intervention strategies, including:
- Strengthening referral pathways to ensure that children in need of protection receive timely support.
- Enhancing social services by improving the capacity of caregivers and service providers.
- Fostering multi-sectoral collaboration to create a holistic approach to child welfare.
Recognizing the importance of sustainable child protection mechanisms, the policy emphasizes the need for resource mobilization, strategic planning, and investment in child welfare services.
Data collection and information management will be key in improving service delivery, enabling the county to assess needs, track progress, and enhance response mechanisms.
Furthermore, the policy integrates emergency preparedness measures to protect children during crises such as natural disasters, conflicts, or pandemics.
These provisions ensure that interventions are timely, well-coordinated, and effective in mitigating risks to vulnerable children.
Stakeholder Engagement and Policy Finalization
Prior to the current sensitization sessions, the Isiolo County Government convened a Technical Working Group Consultation Forum last week to refine and finalize the child protection policy. Key areas of discussion included:
- Strengthening the role of child protection volunteers to enhance grassroots-level interventions.
- Increasing community involvement in identifying and responding to child protection concerns.
- Ensuring adequate support for vulnerable children, including orphans, abandoned children, and those with disabilities.
The forum served as a platform for diverse stakeholders—including government officials, civil society organizations, and child welfare advocates—to contribute insights and recommendations aimed at enhancing the policy’s effectiveness.
Investments and Achievements in Child Protection
Demonstrating its commitment to child welfare, the Isiolo County Government has allocated KSh. 6 million to Almasi Children’s Home, a crucial step in supporting children in need of care and protection.
Additionally, the county has budgeted for the procurement of assistive devices to improve the quality of life for children with disabilities.
To ensure efficient child protection services, Isiolo County has strengthened referral pathways in collaboration with the National Government.
These efforts are aimed at streamlining case management, improving access to support services, and reducing delays in intervention for children facing abuse or neglect.
