Rufas Tiya is a an artist who hails from Marsabit County, Kenya who is a household name in the Northern Kenya region and has a considerable following from Southern Ethiopia and certain areas of Somalia.
This is because she uses Afaan Oromo as the medium for her artistic works. This is a language that is used and spoken by about 30 million of the Oromo population in both Ethiopia and also a considerable population of the Oromo diaspora scattered across Europe and North America.
This is the same language that is spoken widely in Frontier counties such as Marsabit, Mandera, Isiolo, Wajir and Tana River hence creating a wide net of viewership and listenership for artists like Rufas Tiya among others.

This is one of the songs that ultimately established Rufas Tiya’s credentials as a bona fide superstar in the Frontier region of Kenya. The song has a mellow vibe to it and is recorded over a track that has fusions of both Oromo and Somali music elements.

Sololo Tiya is a duet between Rufas Tiya and her fellow Sololian artist, King Fulele. Both hail from Sololo town and it is only natural that they got together to do one for their hometown. This was Rufas Tiya’s debut song and it brought out a new era of artistry in this region. The song has been massive and still gets airplay to date despite being about a couple or so years old.
