Marsabit,Kenya|Veteran singer, song writer and guitarist who goes by the stage moniker PrinceJero has announced his retirement from the local music industry. Jero, who primarily sings in Borana-Oromo language has been entertaining the local masses for close to two decades.

The artist, whose real name is Njeru Jackson Gichovi made the announcement via his Official Facebook account to a mixed feeling from his fans. In the post, he said that as he exits the stage, he intends to do one final Facebook live session for his fans.

He further mentioned that he has been fending for his family through his music and performances over the years and he is in uncharted waters now. He appealed to fans to stand with him one finally time as he intends to raise daughter’s school fees from the Facebook live session.

The singer also mentioned that his son is already studying at a local university and with his daughter also now admitted to a secondary school, the burden to shoulder the required amount for them has overwhelmed him.

This is his full statement as it appeared on his official Facebook account:

“To My Dear Fans, Friends, and Comrades

For close to two decades, I have been at the forefront to entertain you with Cushitic songs, specifically Borana, Burji, and Oromo Songs. In as much as I aimed at keeping the spirit of our musical culture alive and lively, it also became a God-gifted talent through which I used to fend for my family.

After a wide range of consultations with friends and colleagues, I have therefore decided to hang up my boots from the musical industry. I understand that this decision will not be greatly welcomed by most of my followers but sometimes, we have to bend for a new beginning.

With a family to fend for, my firstborn going to the university and my daughter now admitted to High School, I have taken the alternative to raise funds for both of them by doing one last FACEBOOK LIVE PERFORMANCE tomorrow 7 PM till Midnight.
