Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to transparency and accountability in county governance, as he appeared before the Senate Committee on County Public Investments and Special Funds to respond to audit queries on key county entities.

Governor Guyo was summoned to address concerns flagged in the Auditor General’s report for the 2023/2024 financial year.

The report covered the financial statements and management practices of the Isiolo Water and Sewerage Company Limited, Isiolo Municipality, and the Isiolo County Referral Hospital—three critical institutions at the heart of service delivery in the county.

Appearing composed and confident before the Senate panel, Governor Guyo provided a detailed breakdown of his administration’s efforts to enhance fiscal discipline and efficiency across county departments and semi-autonomous government agencies.

He noted that reforms had already been initiated to address issues raised in the audit report, with a focus on improving governance frameworks, enhancing internal controls, and ensuring timely financial reporting.

“We are committed to ensuring that every shilling of public money is accounted for and used effectively to improve the lives of Isiolo residents,” Governor Guyo told the Committee.

“Our administration takes the oversight role of the Senate very seriously, and we see it as a crucial partner in our journey towards good governance and improved service delivery.”

Guyo emphasized that his government is proactively working to align all financial practices with national accountability standards, especially in the wake of increasing public scrutiny and demand for better services from devolved units.

The Governor’s appearance comes amid a broader national push to strengthen financial oversight and ensure prudent use of public resources at the county level.

With many counties facing mounting criticism over financial mismanagement and underperformance, Guyo’s proactive and transparent approach before the Senate has set a notable example among his peers.

Later, through a statement on his official social media platforms, Governor Guyo reaffirmed his dedication to ethical leadership and responsible financial stewardship.

“Today, I appeared before the Senate Committee on County Public Investments and Special Funds to deliberate on the Auditor General’s report on the financial statements of Isiolo Water and Sewerage Company Limited, Isiolo Municipality, and Isiolo County Referral Hospital for the Financial Year 2023/2024,” Governor Guyo wrote.

“I reaffirmed our commitment to transparency, accountability, and efficient service delivery. I also appreciated the Committee’s oversight role, which is key to strengthening governance and ensuring responsible management of public resources.” He added.

Political analysts and governance observers have praised Guyo’s open engagement with the Senate and his apparent readiness to address fiscal challenges head-on.

His move is seen as both a political and administrative strategy to enhance public trust and reinforce his leadership credentials as counties face pressure to deliver tangible results under tight budgetary constraints.

As counties prepare for the next budget cycle, the spotlight remains on how county chiefs manage public funds.

Governor Guyo’s appearance and strong defense of Isiolo’s financial records signal a promising direction for a county that has historically struggled with underdevelopment and weak infrastructure.

In a devolved system where financial transparency often comes under question, Guyo’s posture before the Senate has positioned him not only as a responsible steward of public funds but also as a potential model of county leadership grounded in accountability, reform, and service-oriented governance.
