“I Made It, Dad”: Ayan Tubi Sworn In as Advocate One Week After Father’s Death in Heart-Wrenching Yet Inspiring Ceremony

Nairobi, Kenya| In a moment that captured both profound grief and unbreakable resolve, Ayan Mohamed Tubi, daughter of the late Isiolo South Member of Parliament Mohamed Tubi, was admitted to the Kenyan Bar on Thursday, exactly seven days after laying her father to rest.

The Supreme Court of Kenya ceremony, meant to be a pinnacle of joy, unfolded under the heavy shadow of loss.

Yet as Ayan rose to take the solemn oath as an Advocate of the High Court, those present say her composure and quiet strength turned the courtroom into sacred ground.

“This One is for You, Dad”

Later that evening, at an intimate admission party attended by family, friends, mentors, and political leaders, the newly-minted advocate could no longer hold back her emotions.

Standing before a hushed crowd, Ayan broke down in tears as she dedicated the milestone to her late father.

“I honour my late dad and my mum,” she said, voice trembling. “Today I feel their presence, their prayers, and their pride. Dad, this is for you.”

She recounted how her father, affectionately known as “Tubi”, would beam with pride whenever he introduced her: “Niko na msichana wakili” – Swahili for “I have a daughter who is a lawyer”.

“He waited for this day,” Ayan continued. “He kept telling everyone that his daughter would one day stand in the courts wearing the advocate’s robe. Even when he fell ill, he never stopped believing I would make it.”

Mohamed Tubi, a respected legislator and community leader, passed away on 15 November 2025 after a short illness, leaving the nation and his constituency in mourning. Friends say one of his final wishes was to see Ayan called to the Bar.

A Camel in Celebration: Udgoon Siyad’s Moving Tribute

The outpouring of love continued when Garissa County Women Representative Hon. Udgoon Siyad, a close friend and political ally of the late MP, presented Ayan with a magnificent camel – a deeply symbolic gift in Somali culture representing wealth, honour, and enduring friendship.

The presentation took place amid applause and tears, with Udgoon embracing Ayan and whispering words of encouragement.

“This camel is not just a gift,” Udgoon told guests. “It is a celebration of Ayan’s excellence, a mark of respect to my brother Mohamed Tubi, and a promise that his legacy lives on through his children.”

In Somali tradition, gifting a camel is one of the highest forms of celebration and solidarity, often reserved for weddings, graduations, and major life milestones.

From Grief to the Gown: A Journey of Resilience

Ayan’s admission to the Bar caps years of disciplined study at one of Kenya’s top law schools, followed by rigorous training at the Kenya School of Law.

Those close to her describe a young woman who balanced academic excellence with quiet determination, even as her father’s health declined in his final months.

Colleagues at the ceremony noted that Ayan clutched her admission certificate close to her chest as she left the Supreme Court – as if holding both her achievement and her father’s memory in the same embrace.

“Allahumma barik,” many whispered as she passed – “May Allah bless her.”

A Promise Fulfilled, A Legacy Continued

Though Mohamed Tubi will never physically witness his daughter arguing cases in the very courts where he once championed his constituents, those who knew him best say he is watching from a higher place.

For Ayan Mohamed Tubi, every court appearance, every client defended, and every judgment pursued will now carry an unspoken dedication:

“I made it, Dad.”

Congratulations, Advocate AYAN MOHAMED TUBI!
May your career be illustrious, your path illuminated, and may your father’s soul rest in the highest ranks of Jannah.
