Isiolo, Kenya| In a poignant special sitting filled with reflection and reverence, the Isiolo County Assembly paid glowing tribute to the late Hon. Mohamed Tubi Bidu, the institution’s inaugural Speaker and former Member of Parliament for Isiolo South Constituency.
The session, held just days after his passing on November 12, 2025, celebrated a leader whose visionary guidance laid the bedrock for devolved governance in Isiolo County and whose selfless service continues to inspire generations.
Hon. Tubi, affectionately known as the “Pioneer Speaker,” was remembered as the architect of Isiolo’s legislative framework during the transformative early years of devolution in 2013.
Serving as the first Speaker of the County Assembly from 2013 to 2017, he navigated the uncharted waters of county legislation with unwavering steadiness, establishing parliamentary traditions, fostering order, and instilling a culture of accountability that remains the cornerstone of the Assembly’s operations today.
Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) hailed his pivotal role in strengthening the institution, emphasizing how his leadership ensured robust legislative processes and elevated public participation to the heart of decision-making.
“Hon. Mohamed Tubi loved to be referred to as the Pioneer Speaker, a title he cherished deeply because of the immense contributions he made during his tenure,” shared Hon. Abdirashid Ali (Girandira), Majority Leader and MCA for Garba Tulla Ward.
This cherished moniker underscored his pride in building a functional assembly from the ground up, a foundation that has enabled subsequent leaders to advance Isiolo’s development agenda.
Beyond the chambers, Hon. Tubi’s legacy as Isiolo South MP (elected in 2022 on a Jubilee Party ticket) shone brightly in his people-centered initiatives.
His deliberate focus on education, infrastructure upgrades, water access, and community empowerment projects transformed lives in the arid region.
Leaders praised his ability to champion laws and policies that directly benefited constituents, with Nominated MCA Hon. Fatuma Abdullahi noting in Swahili: “Mheshimiwa Tubi aliweza kusaidia na kupitisha sheria ambazo zimewanufaisha wananchi wa Isiolo hadi leo. Tunamuomba Mwenyezi Mungu amweke mahali pema peponi” (Hon. Tubi was able to help and pass laws that continue to benefit the people of Isiolo to this day. We pray to Almighty God to place him in a good place in paradise).
Described as a true statesman, Hon. Tubi Bidu embodied humility, courage, and an unyielding commitment to public service.
His background in wildlife conservation – having served as Chief Game Warden in iconic reserves like Maasai Mara, Samburu, and Isiolo – informed his passionate advocacy for environmental stewardship, a cause he carried into Parliament as a member of the Departmental Committee on Environment, Forestry, and Mining.
What set him apart was his role as a unifying force in Isiolo’s diverse social and political landscape. Known for bridging divides and promoting harmony during tense moments, he balanced firmness with diplomacy, earning respect across clans and communities.
“Today we remember a man who walked with purpose, spoke with clarity, and served with honor. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy continues to guide and inspire us,” reflected Nominated MCA Hon. Fozia Adan.
The Assembly’s tribute echoed sentiments shared in an official social media statement, acknowledging Hon. Tubi Bidu’s efforts in advancing public participation, championing education and development, and upholding principled leadership. His record stands as a testament to an enduring commitment to the people of Isiolo County.
In closing the special sitting, the Assembly extended heartfelt condolences to Hon. Tubi’s family, relatives, and the people of Isiolo South, affirming that his contributions form an indelible pillar in the county’s governance history.
As Isiolo mourns a giant, his disciplined approach to service and transformational vision will undoubtedly light the path for future leaders.
Hon. Tubi’s passing marks the end of an era, but his imprint on devolution, community development, and peaceful coexistence in Isiolo will endure forever. Rest in peace, Pioneer Speaker.
