In a bold and unified stand, the Isiolo County Assembly, led by the resolute Budget Committee Vice Chair Rahma Abdikadir, has fiercely defended the passage of the KSh 7.3 billion 2025/2026 county budget, asserting its legality and adherence to constitutional mandates.
At a high-profile press briefing attended by key figures including Speaker Abdullahi Banticha, Assembly Clerk Salad Boru, and Deputy Speaker David Lemantile, the Assembly dismissed mounting criticism as politically motivated propaganda aimed at derailing the county’s development agenda.
The budget, officially gazetted after rigorous scrutiny, has sparked debate among some local leaders who have called for protests, alleging irregularities in its adoption.
However, Rahma Abdikadir, a formidable voice in Isiolo’s legislative landscape, stood firm, emphasizing that the budget underwent every constitutional and statutory stage as outlined in the Public Finance Management Act.
“This budget was passed at the required time, with all due process followed. I want to assure the public that everything is in order,” Abdikadir declared, her words resonating with authority and conviction.
She labeled the critics as “political opportunists” spreading reckless misinformation to undermine the county’s progress.
The Assembly’s defense was echoed by Deputy Speaker David Lemantile, who reiterated that the KSh 7.3 billion budget was adopted legally with a quorum of nine members present during the session.
“There’s no confusion whatsoever. Both the Chair and Vice Chair of the Budget Committee are fully aligned on this,” Lemantile stated, reinforcing the Assembly’s commitment to transparency and procedural integrity.
The MCAs, unyielding in their stance, urged detractors to cease politicizing the budget and misleading the public, emphasizing that demonstrations, as some critics have proposed, “do not bring solutions.”
Adding a sharp critique, MCA Lentimalo took aim at the budget’s detractors, describing them as “rebellions in the wilderness” who deliberately shunned the budget-making process only to now sabotage the county’s development from the sidelines.
He clarified the distinct roles of the county’s executive and legislative arms, noting that the executive is solely responsible for crafting the budget, while the Assembly’s mandate is to review, amend, and approve it through established procedures.
“The process was followed to the letter, and no amount of noise or mischief will derail Isiolo’s progress,” Lentimalo asserted.
Rahma Abdikadir, whose leadership in the Budget Committee has been pivotal, emerged as a central figure in this unfolding narrative.
Her unwavering commitment to upholding the integrity of the legislative process has positioned her as a champion of good governance in Isiolo.
Addressing the press, she reiterated the Assembly’s dedication to serving the people of Isiolo, stating, “We have passed a budget that reflects the needs of our people, and we will not be swayed by those seeking to create confusion for their own gain.”
The KSh 7.3 billion budget, now officially adopted, is set to drive critical development projects across Isiolo County, including infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment initiatives.
The Assembly’s leadership has called on residents to support the implementation of the budget, which they argue is a cornerstone for transforming the county’s socio-economic landscape.
As Isiolo moves forward, the Assembly’s resolute defense of the budget underscores a broader commitment to transparency, accountability, and progress.
With Rahma Abdikadir at the forefront, the county’s legislative body has sent a clear message: no amount of political posturing will deter them from delivering on their mandate to serve the people of Isiolo.
