Marsabit: student on oxygen support for years appeals for assistance

author

Marsabit, Kenya| Diba Matacho, a young man from Hulahula in Marsabit central sub-county has reportedly been confined to a hospital bed for four years. He can not leave the hospital as he needs an Oxygen supply system in order to breath. The Oxygen supply can only be accessed at a health facility.

Matacho was a student at Marsabit Mixed Secondary where he became sick sometimes in the year 2018. He was diagnosed with chronic tuberculosis. After nearly five(5) months of medication, his lungs gave in, collapsed further complicating matters for him. He later developed lung fibrosis making it impossible for him to breath naturally.

Since then, he has been forced to depend on Oxygen therapy for his survival. Doctors who have been attending to him say he cannot survive for more than ten(10) minutes without an Oxygen supply which is why they can’t risk discharge him.

Diba, who despite his grim prospects in life as a result of his health state seems enthusiastic and hopeful. He intends to get out of the four corners of his hospital ward and finish his secondary studies which were cut short by the debilitating health nightmare that befell him. His former schoolmates are now perhaps done with the college already but he still holds out hope that he can overcome his adversaries and make it out of this rough patch in his life.

Frequent power blackouts in Marsabit area is also not making it any easier for him as he needs an emergency generator at his side for any eventualities in case of a power outage.

Thus far, the silver lining for him has been the friendly and kind medics at the Marsabit County Referral Hospital led by its CEO Dr. Liban Wako. Because of his family’s humble background, Matacho wouldn’t have been able to sustain his stay at the busy referral hospital. They have been taking care of him at the hospital’s expense knowing well that without the support they offer him, Matacho wouldn’t be with us today.

Diba has registered for this year’s KCSE examinations as a private student but they only way he can be able to sit for it is if he can get a portable oxygen concentrator which is way beyond his financial reach.
Dr. Liban Wako, the facility’s CEO says Diba needs at least Ksh 500,000 to acquire the Oxygen concentrator and has called upon the public to support him in purchasing one so that he can get another lease of life.
Diba’s family has also made an appeal to the general public to come to their aid in saving their son from the untold predicament that he has been battling for years.
If you wish to help, you may reach Dr. Liban Wako on 0712914270. Dr. Wako, as earlier mentioned is the Chief Executive Officer of Marsabit County Referral Hospital where Matacho has been getting an Oxygen remedy for the past four years(since 2018).
