Ruto laments on ‘excessive’ alcohol consumption in Kenya


Kenyan president William Ruto on thursday 19th of January spoke about the ‘unhealthy’ rate at which kenyans consume alcohol. He said that alcoholism will be dealt with ruthlessly.

Ruto said that alcoholism has destroyed alot of people and that lives have been lost due to excessive alcohol consumption and abuse in the country.

“National and County Governments must work together to confront this [serious] problem.” He said it is time alcohol is sold to designated areas only.

The president was speaking during the laying down of the foundation stone of the Ruiru affordable housing project in Kiambu county. Present at the function were DP Rigathi Gachagua, CSs Zachariah njeru and Moses kuria.

During the function the president insisted that his regime was aimed at delivering upto 200000 affordable urban housing units annually.

DP Gachagua said that the government will keep launching development projects in every part of Kenya. “No areas will be left behind in our quest to making our country more equal,” he reiterated.

Construction materials and labour are said to be sourced locally for these projects thus creating a wide range of jobs for the youths and market for the raw materials hence an increase in our economy and reduction in international dependence.
