Kenya: LGBTQ+ activist Edwin Chiloba laid to rest

The late Edwin Chiloba has finally been laid to rest in Sergoit village, Elgeyo marakwet county, Kenya. The 25 year old LGBTQ rights advocate and fashion model’s dismembered body was found two weeks ago by the roadside stuffed inside a metal box.

Hundreds of family and friends were present at the burial ceremony held at his fathers home. Heartfelt tributes were heard and call for justice being the most vocal during his burial.

“Today, a peaceful person is buried. Rest in power Edwin Chiloba. Salute your courage to authentically live your life. May yourlove for life inspire all who now know you. Deepest condolences again to family and fellow friends.” Amnesty international exucutive director, Irungu Houghton.

A family member was keen to note that the social media directed abuse over the sexuality of the late Chiloba has really hurt them. Various report online put the late in a love triangle with some saying he had a girlfriend while other news disputing it.

Five suspects have since been detained over the murder but more information is still yet to be released by the police. The US government earlier offered investigations into the matter while asking for immediate action to be done.

One of the suspects who reportedly confessed to the murder(according to the police) is his(Chiloba’s) partner Jackton Ojwang. The suspect reportedly claimed that the deceased cheated on him hence why he decided to take matters in his own hands.
